Aaaaaaaaaaand we're back.

And by "we" I mean "me" and by "back" I mean, I'm going to try this again and see how long I stick around. Basically we're in a not-committal relationship. If you (the reader/ the internet) and my blog were a FB couple, our status would be "it's complicated."

However, I have a few plans in the works that might make this smoother sailing than before. I'm currently exploring different music websites (rdio, last.fm, etc) and have been on spotify for a while now so listening has gotten easier (for me that is... don't know about you). I hope to keep my posts short and sweet and I'm thinking of putting the band/ songs in the title so as to make looking back through past posts easier (in case any of y'all actually browse past posts, that is). But I'm not sure. I just love my weird, non-sensical titles... like I said, it's complicated. But I'm willing to change to make this work. What about you? ;)

At any rate, expect changes soon but in the meantime, here's some songs celebrating my back-ness...

Spoilers: they're mostly just songs that have "I'm back" in them. Not all of them are awesome. But the last one IS. Period. One of the best songs ever. Let me know if I missed any of your favorite "I'm back" songs.

Mahna, Monday!

So, I know this is technically Tuesday since it's 1:39 am but I had to get this out there and just didn't get to it til now. In case y'all haven't seen it yet, the new Muppet movie is awesome. In fact, Bret McKenzie (of FOTC and LOTR fame) won an oscar for the songs he wrote for it.

But this post isn't about him. As part of the hype leading up to the movie (at least that's what I think happened) an album was released of classic muppet tunes covered by some of today's favorite artists including OK Go, The Fray, Weezer, etc. It's been out a while now but I FINALLY got my hands on a copy (thanks, Anne and Aj) and listened today. AWESOME!! I know I say that about everything I post on here but it truly is. Think of it as me saving you time; now you don't have to waste time going through bad music. This blog is a short cut. Anywho, click HERE for the whole album in a playlist but here's my favorite few in a separate playlist.

Movin' right along- Alkaline Trio
Mr. Bassman- by none other than Sondre Lerche (if you haven't heard his other stuff see my old post)
Bein' Green- Andrew Bird. I hadn't heard this guy before but he DEFINITELY makes the "to listen to" list.
Mahna Mahna- The Fray did a great job but on a side note, Cake does it too (better?) You decide.

Speaking of covers, what's your favorite? If y'all send enough we could have the next post JUST on covers. Enjoy!

Somber-ness & Zombies

Sorry in advance if this is more of a downer. Just seems to be how the day is going. Anyways, normally I try to stick to the upbeat (no point in being down in the dumps on purpose) but if you're already down and in the mood for some tunes but the happy stuff ain't doin' it for ya, here's a few that I have been known to enjoy.

And, once again, this is only for those who are ALREADY down (If you weren't, you probably will be after listening to all these). So, if you're happy and you know it... just walk away! Otherwise, continue on. As always, the individual songs are below (minus the Beatles- Grooveshark doesn't play those) or the entire playlist  is HERE
Shimmer- Fuel
Adam's Song- Blink 182 (These two really take ya back to 2000, huh?)
The Ascent of Stan- Ben Folds
Real Love- The Beatles (I don't know why but I've always felt this expressed my feelings about my older brother. Miss you, Nate :\
Breakdown- Jack Johnson (This song represents that phase in life when I was just home from Germany trying to figure out what to do with life and coming up empty handed all on a long train ride to Machu Pichu)
Slip Slidin' Away- Paul Simon
Someday Never Comes- CCR
Gravity- Embrace (This song makes my thoughts happen in slow motion)
Lullaby (Goodnight My Angel)- Billy Joel
Ruby Falls- Guster (Make sure to close your eyes and CRANK it at about the 2:15 mark)

So, there's that. Did I miss any? What are your favorite somber songs? Have a meh-y Monday, everyone!

Also, in a completely insufficient attempt to offer something happy after all that down, here's something that everyone should listen to AT LEAST 10 times (it's pretty catchy, not to mention hilarious). The Zombie Song- Stephanie Mabee.
